The Humpty Files

by Clive Hulme

How might the Greeks have performed the story of Humpty Dumpty? Or how might Shakespeare have written it? From this ridiculous premise come 20 scripts, each written in a different dramatic genre and/or playwright's style.

Through this project students will be asked to consider form rather than content – but in a way that is sooo much fun! Each genre/playwright has a 2 page script and there are 10 additional pages of teacher notes, giving genre/playwright backgrounds. There is also a worksheet template so that students can complete a research and response project for each genre.

Genres covered are:

Caveman; Greek; Miracle; Melodrama; Silent Film; Soap; Theatre of the Absurd; Murder Mystery; Kitchen Sink; Farce; Ensemble

Individual playwrights covered are:

William Shakespeare; R. B. Sheridan, Oscar Wilde; Bertolt Brecht; Noel Coward; Samuel Beckett; Alan Bennett; Willy Russell; Mark Wheeller

"This is a brilliant resource which will really prove useful for so many year groups. They would also be great for a ‘one off lesson’ and they’re very funny too!"

Head of Drama, Leeds
