Matilda Mini Script

by Alison Chaplin

Mini Performance Script for Hilaire Belloc’s “Matilda” Poem

This script is designed for a mini theatrical performance of Hilaire Belloc’s famous narrative poem, Matilda, about the mischievous girl who told lies and faced a tragic fate. The performance creatively combines spoken narration, mimed actions, and improvised scenes linked to the poem, bringing it to life on stage. Narrators read lines directly from the poem while seamlessly linking the different scenes, making it ideal for school performances, drama clubs, and poetry-based theatre. Great as a discussion starting point around honesty and telling lies, too.

Engage your young students with this interactive and creative adaptation of Belloc’s classic poem, perfect for exploring themes of storytelling, morality, and performance art. Would work as an assembly performance too!
